Itinerary

Exploring the Kenai Peninsula 2022

Wednesday, August 3

 

9:00am to 5:00pm: Students arrive from home locations at Anchorage International Airport

5:00 to 6:00pm: Check in to hotel, enjoy dinner at hotel, receive adventure itinerary and welcome from AEA staff

6:00 to 7:00pm: Alaska English lesson: Alaska geography, history, and people

7:00 to 10:00pm: Relax at the pool and whirlpool

 

Thursday, August 4

8:30 to 9:30am:  Breakfast at hotel, pack, get ready for drive to Seward

9:30 to 10:15am: Drive to Girdwood and stop at Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center (AWCC).

10:15 to 1:30pm:  Visit AWCC, lunch will be eaten at the center.  Students will participate in Wildlife Scavenger Hunt with fellow campers while at Center. 

1:30 to 3:30pm: Drive to Seward and check in to Seward Beachhouse.

3:30 to 4:30 pm: Hike Kings Head trail and stroll down to the beach to look for sea stars and seashells.

4:30 to 6:00pm: Alaska English lesson: Alaska wildlife

6:00 to 7:30pm:  Dinner at Chinook’s

7:30 to 10:00pm: Relax at around the campfire, practice language skills, sing songs, enjoy new friends

 

Friday, August 5th

7:00 to 7:45 am: Breakfast, prepare for adventure today

8:00am to 8:00pm: Best of Alaska Tour at Miller’s Landing.  Enjoy a 4-hour paddle in Aialik Bay or Northwestern Fiord at one of the amazing tidewater glaciers and 4 hours of sport fishing for salmon and rockfish.  Also, enjoy 4 hours of nature viewing.   Lunch provided. 

8:30 to 10:00pm: Relax around the campfire and talk about today’s amazing adventure

Saturday, August 6th

8:00 to 9:30am: Breakfast, stretch legs, get ready for another amazing day

9:00 to 9:45am: Transport and first meeting with youth from Seward Teen Rec Center

9:45 to 2:45pm: 3.2-mile round trip hike to Exit glacier or longer hike to Harding Ice Field.  Will include some mountain climbing.    Pack lunch will be provided. 

3:00 to 5:00pm: Alaska English lesson: World War II History in Seward

5:00 to 8:00pm: BBQ with new friends at Seward Teen Center

Sunday, August 7th

8:00 to 9:15am: Breakfast, prepare for another action-packed adventure day

9:30am to 4:00pm: Kenai Fiords National Park Cruise.  Prime rib or salmon lunch provided. 

5:00 to 8:00pm: Dinner at Seward Brewing Company.  Our daily Alaska English lesson (conversational scavenger hunt) will begin here and continue into Seward.

 

8:15 to 10:00pm: Relax around the campfire and reflect on our amazing day together

Monday, August 8th

8:00 to 9:00am: Breakfast, pack, get ready for a trip to Cooper Landing

9:00 to 10:00am: Drive to Cooper Landing

10:00 to 10:45am: Set up tent camping gear at Quartz Creek or another campground. 

10:45 to 12:15pm: Alaska English lesson: Alaska Native People and Their Culture

12:15 to 1:00pm: Lunch

1:00 to 6:00pm: Fishing, water sports, rock skipping, fire building will all be available depending on the wants of the group. 

6:00 to 7:30pm: Killer Bucket of Meat and Beans for dinner.  Students will help prepare and cook meals. 

7:30 to 10:00pm: Practice fire-making skills on a campfire, dance with the unofficial Alaska state bird, write in journals, play conversation games, reflect on how amazing life really is. 

Tuesday, August 9th

8:00 to 9:00am: Breakfast, stretch legs, get ready for the day

9:30 to 3:30pm: Slaughter Gulch hike in Cooper Landing.  Considered very strenuous and difficult at times with tough vertical climbs, this hike should test all students.  Stunning views of Alaska beauty at the top.  Be sure to bring your camera!

4:00 to 6:00pm: Relax and recover from the hike

6:00 to 7:30pm: Alaskan fare dinner out in Cooper Landing

7:30 to 9:00pm: Student-created English lessons, relaxing campfire time, conversations about the hike and amazing views, writing letters to loved ones back home about our day

Wednesday, August 10th

8:00 to 9:30am: Pack camp, eat breakfast, get ready for the day

9:30 to 11:30am: Drive from Cooper Landing to Anchorage

11:30 to 12:30pm: Lunch

12:30 to 1:15pm: Check in to the hotel

1:15 to 4:30pm: See fish swimming at Ship Creek, take a walk on the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail

4:30 to 6:30pm: Dinner and book signing party with acclaimed Alaskan author Jamey Bradbury

6:30 to 8:30pm: Alaska English lesson: Review, exam, graduation!

Thursday, August 11th

8:00 to 9:00am: Breakfast, get ready for the day at the hotel

9:00 to 11:00pm: Visit Alaska Native Heritage Center.  Participate in a cultural and social scavenger hunt

11:00 to 12:30pm: Visit University of Alaska/ Anchorage or Alaska Pacific University

12:30 to 1:30pm: Lunch

1:30 to 4:30pm: Visit Anchorage Museum

4:30 to 6:30pm:  Dinner and closing tour ceremonies

6:30 to 9:30pm: Relax with group.  Reflect on how amazing and inspiring Alaska really is.  Exchange contact information with new friends.  Make plans for future Alaska English Adventures tours. 

Friday, August 12th

8:00am to 8:00pm:  Trips to the airport for everyone to board airplanes safely.
